,

& opportunities for
imaginative play.

Each session is planned with a theme in mind, such as colours, numbers, growth and friendship. The story, songs and craft activity reflect the theme. Different methods of story telling are used such as in rhyme or song form, traditional reading from the book or acted out using props, puppets or sound effects.

You & your child are warmly welcomed into each session. It is our aim to help your child feel relaxed and confident as they join in with the activities. Musical Cherubs understands that each child is individual and unique. We encourage and value each child's contribution/input and promote self-confidence and self-esteem.

Musical Cherubs welcomes each child into an atmospheric room, where they feel comfortable and accepted. The room is 'dressed' to represent the theme of the session, creating an atmosphere for the child. Materials used to dress the room encourage sensory experiences. Music playing in the background, as the children enter, is selected to compliment the theme of the session. They are encouraged to explore and investigate the surroundings before settling into the activities.

We work with parents/carers to encourage their children to develop healthy relationships by valuing themselves and respecting others. Group activities such as the parachute, singing and instrument playing offer times of working together, whereas, craft activities allow the children to express their ideas and creativity, while working alongside their peers. Snack time encourages self-help skills and is a social activity, a time for communication and getting to know each other. We encourage everyone to share songs and rhymes from their culture or in their language.

Music from around the world is used as background music during craft time demonstrating the richness and diversity evident in our society.

There are many learning opportunities within each session.

We develop our programmes following the national curriculum through the new EYFS document.

Passion statement

Sue and Emily have lived and worked in Tottenham for several years and share a passion for reaching the community. They believe that the early years is an important stage of development for the child when parents also benefit from support. Becoming part of the 'extended family' of Musical Chreubs reduces the feeling of isolation and promotes a communal spirit.

Tottenham, in the borough of Haringey, North East london, is densely populated with a richly diverse community of different nationalities, cultures and languages. It is an area, in some respects, of great need. Musical Cherubs is a project that aims to provide support for parents with young families, reducing isolation, building on family relationships and encouraging a community spirit. We promote 'learning' as a family unit allowing parents to be confident in supporting and enjoying their child's learning and development. Musical Cherubs welcomes all, regardless of disabilities/abilities, family structure, language and cultural barriers.
